Bio 

Alaina Frugé (Fru-Jay) a native of Louisiana, began her career in Michigan in 2010 as the Executive Producer of Inside Detroit, now The Mildred Gaddis Show, at Urban One Detroit for WCHB 1200 AM. After her time at Radio One, she became the WDET Book Club Producer for Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson during the Summer/Fall of 2019. During the COVID pandemic Alaina played a key role in launching an online entertainment and news show called Urban Interest for the Urban Informational Network.

 

Throughout her 8 years at Urban One she has secured interviews from top local officials such as the Governor to the top ranking official, Former President Obama. Alaina received recognition from Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones for her contributions at Public Hearing Meetings, participated in Ground-Breaking Ceremonies, and produced numerous broadcasts from Flint, MI during the Water Crisis alongside Cliff Russell, Thav, Dr. Ian Smith, and Triumph Church. In 2017, she was honored by The Michigan Chronicle as one of Michigan's Top 40 under 40.

While at NPR she organized venues and guests for the WDET Summer Book Club Library Series featuring Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha's book, What the Eyes Don't See. Stephen Henderson and the Detroit Today staff visited libraries around the region to hold discussions about the book and issues facing the surrounding communities regarding drinking water, infrastructure and the health of our waterways.

 

A member of Triumph Church since 2010, Alaina has served Youth Impact and the Office of the Pastor. Her activism began in college as Charter President for The Thurgood Marshall Fund Club where she rallied alongside Michael Baisden during Jena 6 and volunteered during Hurricane Katrina. Her activism continued once relocating to Michigan she traveled to South Carolina  in protest with the  SC NAACP for King Day at the Dome multiple years until it was taken down, attended the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Statue in DC and has participated in the Detroit Regional Policy Conference on Mackinac Island almost four years. Alaina has been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since 2005, currently serving in Detroit’s Lambda Pi Omega Chapter.

 

She is a former Commentator and Producer for Detroit Speaks with Cliff Russell, an endorsed Marketing Promoter, Voice Talent of WGPR HOT 107.5. and On-Air Talent on Praise 102.7 Detroit.

 

Alaina graduated in 2007 from Thee Grambling State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications where she was an On-Air Talent for Grambling's KGRM 91.5 and 100.1 The Beat in Monroe, LA.
